James obtained a first class MChem (Hons) degree from the University of York in 2010 and carried out his final year project, working on self-assembling degradable dendrons for Heparin binding with Prof. David K. Smith.

James was selected as one of 10 undergraduate students to carry out a 3 month fellowship at the Institut Català d’Investigació Química (ICIQ) during the summer of 2009, where he worked on new Calix[4]arene ligands for Kv1.3 proteins, under the supervision of Prof. Javier de Mendoza.

He is currently working on new anion receptors and transporters.
