In 2015, Yanira graduated from the University of Alcala, Spain with a BSc Pharmacy. As part of her degree, she carried a multidisciplinary project with Prof. Javier de la Mata to develop cationic carbosilane nanomolecules with antibacterial properties against multi-resistant bacteria. She synthesized nanomolecules called dendrimers characterised them with High-Pressure Liquid Chromatography and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance, formulated them in a cream and tested their antibacterial activity. After graduation, Yanira moved to UK where she obtained a second BSc in Chemical Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University and worked in a NHS Laboratory, applying analytical chemistry techniques to ensure the safety of medicines. She joined Prof. Anthony Davis and Prof. David Sheppard’s groups to investigate the controlled delivery of synthetic anion carriers to cystic fibrosis epithelial cells.
